The Hartlepool Food Partnership has now launched our competition open to all primary school-aged children in the Borough of Hartlepool, to design a healthy eating-themed cartoon mascot for the Hartlepool Food Partnership, with prizes to be won!
If you have any questions not covered by the details below, please contact us at: info@hartlepoolfoodpartnership.co.uk
And to keep up with all of our news, including about this competition, please sign up to our monthly newsletter HERE.
Why are we doing this?
We want to get kids being creative, thinking about healthy food and to develop a sense of ownership of the Hartlepool Food Partnership, which is for everyone across Hartlepool whatever your age.
Our website has a brand new Kid’s Corner, full of an increasing number of activities, certificates and links for children, all based around healthy eating. But what we need is a cartoon mascot to represent us and our work, that will be used throughout the Kids’ Corner and elsewhere.
Working in partnership with Hartlepool Life, we would love you to enter our competition to design and name a mascot that represents us, our mission and our work. It could be based on a food item, a plate, a plant or something else entirely, let your imaginations run wild – what better way to help us celebrate our second year anniversary!
How to Enter
Entry pages will be printed within Hartlepool Life over two weeks (dates TBD) and entries can be also drawn on a blank piece of paper. All entries must include the child’s name and school year group, as well as a grown up’s name and contact details. By entering the competition you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions outlined further down this page.
Once entries have been practiced and then completed, paper entries can be put into collection boxes at community hubs, specific schools and Greenbank (please see below for a map of locations). Entries can also be submitted electronically using the entry form further down this page. The closing date for entries (which has been slightly extended) will be 23/02/26.
If you would like an entry box for your school, or have any questions or comments, please contact us at info@hartlepoolfoodpartnership.co.uk.
Following the closing date of 31/01/26, three winners will be chosen from each of three age groups (Reception-Year 2, Years 3-4, Years 5-6), at the subsequent meeting of the Hartlepool Food Partnership Steering Group and notified, with prizes awarded. All children from the top winner’s class will receive a small prize also.
Following this, the nine winning designs will be published in Hartlepool Life for a public vote to be our mascot. The top winner will be contacted as soon as possible after this, with the winning and further entries then being widely shared within our subsequent monthly newsletters and related media and social media, which will also share any news updates.
The winning design will be refined into a series of poses, which will then be used by the Hartlepool Food Partnership, as well as the original design, as soon as possible once chosen.
Once the competition has finished, there will be opportunities for children to see their entries publicised. These will include displays of entries at locations around the town, as well as every month in the Hartlepool Food Partnership newsletter and related social media. Soon after the competition has run, a selection of the entries will also be used on sets of fun food-related card games which will be printable from the Partnership’s website.

Terms & Conditions: Eligibility & entry
This competition by the Hartlepool Food Partnership is open to all primary-school aged children that live within the Borough of Hartlepool. For all entrants, you must have permission from your parent/guardian to enter the competition.
Entries must be the original work of the child and submitted by the child and their parent/legal guardian, with entries limited to one per person. No responsibility can be accepted for entries that have been lost or damaged in transit. Unfortunately, entries cannot be returned to senders.
Terms & Conditions: Prizes & notification
The parents/guardians of the nine initial winners will be notified by the Hartlepool Food Partnership via their provided email/telephone details within 28 days the closing date and will be required to supply details of a delivery address for their prizes. For any of those contacted that do not respond within 14 days, an alternative winner will be chosen.
The parent/guardian of the absolute winner will then be contacted again within 7 days of the cessation of the public vote in Hartlepool Life. If there is no response within 14 days, the recipient of second place in the public vote will become the absolute winner.
Any updates regarding all of this will be shared on the Hartlepool Food Partnership website, social media and newsletter.
Terms & Conditions: Use of your data and media activity
The Hartlepool Food Partnership will not share your personal details with third parties and will only use personal details to contact the competition winners to arrange delivery of prizes and potentially ask them whether they would be interested to partake in media activity relating to the competition. Designers of entries (including winners) that are eventually used on snap/pairs-style kids cards (printable from the Partnership’s website) will also be contacted to let them know about that.
By entering the Competition and submitting your entry, you hereby allow the Hartlepool Food Partnership to potentially use your entry for any purpose connected with the organisation (or potentially finesse and make a series of poses of your entry before use). Potential use of your entry may include (but is not limited to) it’s use in press, promotional and marketing materials, events, social media networks and for the promotion of any future competitions in both print and online media. The winning entries may be published in various media, websites and on social media.
We will never publish your contact details and will only include your name alongside your entry, where relevant.
