Community Food Growing Corner

On this page, find about our aim to increase opportunities for growing food on community land, how to access free seeds at the town’s seed libraries and an introduction to the town’s allotments.

Increasing food growing on community land

While Hartlepool is a largely urban area, it is still a town with many opportunities for growing your own fresh produce.

The Hartlepool Food Partnership is identifying areas of unused land that can be converted into community growing areas. It is not a fast process, but progress is slowly being made; hopefully we can share more about this soon.

Encouraging community growing has a number of benefits, including; providing access to locally grown healthy food. This work improves physical and mental wellbeing and contributes to life skills, for example teamwork, confidence and resilience. It has academic impacts also, including science, geography and maths, and teaches about the environment and sustainability.

If you are interested in this topic, or know of a piece of land that may be usable for community growing, please contact us at info@hartlepoolfoodpartnership.co.uk.
